Emil J Miller was born in Liberty, NY in the heart of the Catskill Mountains and at the height of the Golden Age of the days of the Borscht Belt Hotels. He is a Graduate of Miami Photography College and has practiced his craft in the South Florida area since the late 70s. He worked for Jay Spencer though-out the early 80's as a Sport's oriented photographer with Jay, as well as running a Commercial Photo Lab and Retail Camera Store, where, he was promoted to General Manager.
Emil left the photographic industry as a full time professional to spend more time with his family and secured a position as a Territory Sales Manager with DeBra Turf Equipment, working with Golf Courses, Sports Facilities, Parks, Cities, Counties and State Governments to better maintain their formal or informal Turf areas. In 1992, he was offered a position with Smithco, Inc., a manufacturer of Professional Turf Machinery (www.smithco.com), working with a Distribution base though-out primarily the Southeast. He is now the Marketing Manager for Smithco, Inc, responsible for Distribution on the East Coast, Southeast and the Caribbean.
Emil's love for photography rekindled on one of many trips home to his birthpalce to visit family & friends. His love for Sullivan County in evident in the many images he has made of the part of the Catskills.
His photography is highly stylized and defined by strong compositional lines, bold colors and capturing light at peak moments. His mission statement with his images is, "Not to record reality, but to interpret it."
